Dear Marine Reporters,
For your first assignment, you will research just what lies beneath the ocean, and not just the fish. What is the ocean like underneath? Why does the ocean have currents and waves? How do marine scientists explore the big blue? What have we humans done to our water planet? These questions and more will be answered by each reporter and your article will appear in our anniversary edition of The Ocean.
Sincerely,
Ms. Salchli, Editor of The Ocean
Feature Article Reporting
Marine Article Process Overview
- In your group of marine reporters, you will be given a specific topic to research about the wonders of the ocean.
- Each group must use the links below to explore your topic.
- As you research, take notes in your science notebook. Remember, do not include all the information, just the most important facts.
- Answer the guiding question found above the links, and include them in your article.
- Be sure to include the following in your article: (See the feature article checklist to guide your article writing process. Feature Article Checklist)

Needs a “Catchy” title to catch the reader’s attention.
Needs a “Grabber” paragraph to grab the interest of the reader.
Needs information that is factual, but not boring.
Needs a “wrap-up” paragraph that brings the article to a nice close
